Talk About Girl Empowerment: “Hana Surf Girls”

Featuring Lipoa Kahaleuahi and Monyca Byrne-Wickey, Hana Surf Girls, Russ Spencer’s poignant film aptly captures the social dilemmas faced by two teen girls from a rural community they mature into adulthood. It’s the Eve dilemma: stay in paradise—in this case, Hana, Hawaii, on the island of Maui—or grow out of it, and into the rest of the big, busy world?

Great music score, to boot!

Hana Surf Girls is getting its debut at the 25th Annual Santa Barbara Film International Festival on February 11, 2010, 7 p.m. at the Lobero Theatre. For more information, go to http://www.hanasurfgirls.com.
