On Job Losses and Gains
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know the country has been losing jobs (http://www NULL.newsday NULL.com/) at an amazing clip, which has caused unemployment to hit levels not seen in more than a decade.
Unfortunately, the economic forecast calls for more dark days.
Yet there is a bright spot amid all the gloom. The nation has elected a president who promises to address the employment challenges America faces.
I’m sure there are skeptics; and yes, politicians make all kinds of promises to get elected. But this time, with this president-elect, there is reason to believe it will be different.
There are already signs that his words will equate to actions.
Only three days after he was voted into office, President-Elect Barack Obama held a press conference (http://ca NULL.youtube NULL.com/watch?v=GxGPPK3e4bc&feature=channel). With an impressive team of economic advisers standing behind him, he spoke about his commitment to solutions, providing specifics about what he will do.
Obama has also launched Change.gov (http://change NULL.gov/), a website unlike any other. Take a look. Your new president is already communicating with you about the many issues that affect your life.
In one section of the site (http://change NULL.gov/) he talks in detail about job creation. (Scroll down the page for several sections about jobs.)
Programs take time to implement, so change won’t happen overnight. Nevertheless, change with regard to government policies, and proactive leadership with regard to employment, an issue central to single-minded women and other Americans, is already occurring.
For hard-working women and men, there is reason for optimism.
