Remember that scene in “Reality Bites” in which Winona Ryder’s character is asked on the spot to define irony…but she can’t?
I was remembering that over the weekend as my date cited instance after instance that he deemed “ironic.” The thing is, they weren’t. They were coincidental, or just unlucky. And it drove me nuts!
I’m not the type to pick apart an Alanis Morrissette song, but I don’t like it when people use words they don’t understand. And as I listened to him talk, I realized that a) he was boring, and b) that I couldn’t take much more.
Petty? Perhaps. But aren’t most deal-breakers?

Most deal-breakers are the tiny things, but I have found that if they are a problem on the first date then they won’t be getting any better. I don’t think I would have been able to hand this guy’s constant misuse of the word “ironic” either.
