Sex & the Single Woman: Forgetting the Past

Is it best to forget our relationships?
In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey play two characters that test this theory. They attempt to erase each other and their damaged relationships from their memories.
This is one of my favorite movies, but I cannot help but wonder if it is best to remember our relationships. Yes, they may not be the most pleasant experiences to recall, but where would we be without them? I learn from my mistakes, especially in relationships, and for every failed relationship I have walked away with at least some positive memories.
After all, doesn’t it take all of the failed relationships to realize how good we have it when we find the right man?

Amen!
It’s so easy to want to erase the past and forget it all because there are times when those memories hurt.
But I’m with you Maggie. I learn from my mistakes and if I can progress and grow from the turbulant, maybe I can actually be a better person, it could happen!
As Benjamin Franklin said, “That which hurts, instructs.” Challenges are always where we grow – so a clean slate wouldn’t be much progress.
