Sex & the Single Woman: Speaking of Blasts from the Past . . .

Last weekend I had two blasts from the past. The first I talked about Monday, but the other is slightly more perplexing to me.

We have liked each other on and off for the past four years, but every time something seems on the verge of happening, one of us backs down. No matter what our current state our relationship is in, we have always managed to maintain a healthy banter. Saturday, when I saw him, however, things were different. Not bad, just . . .  different.

We talked as adults for once, not like the two flirty teenagers we used to seem like. All of the sudden I felt very old, and I don’t know how I feel about that.

Is it possible to grow out of what used to seem like a relationship that could last forever?
