Sex & the Single Woman: You Go, Girl

When you hear songs like “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You,” you know whoever wrote them has some serious inspiration, and it can’t all be good. Point proven? Adele has admitted that so much of her songs came from a relationship gone wrong. One quote I recently read really struck a cord in me:

“It was the most brilliant relationship I have ever been in … I expected too much, I was needy, I was jealous even though I’m not a jealous person. We both said a lot of things in the heat of the moment. We were perfect and we were totally meant to be together – we just met at the wrong time. Maybe we’ll be together in the future, I don’t know. I’m constantly looking for him in other people.”

While I love Adele’s music, I love her even more for putting into words a struggle I’ve had for a long time. I completely understand the feeling of believing you are perfect for someone, but realizing the timing is wrong, and might never be right.

The last comment she made also struck a cord with me. I never realized it, but with the last two people I seriously fell for, I struggled to move on for exactly that reason — I look for them in every other guy a meet, which is nearly impossible to find. Now if only there was a solution beside becoming a best-selling singer.

So thank you, Adele, for not only filling my iPod, but enlightening me. You rock.
