The Perfect Warm Weather Cocktails
By Fabiana Santana
Plan on being camped out on the lawn for the fireworks display or buried at the beach the rest of the summer? Taking your patriotic spirit to-go is easy this season with if you prepare for it. Think cool, refreshing punch style drinks that you can make in batches (like sangria or rum punch) and serve over ice. Transporting cocktails can be stylish and easy, too. Pack chilled mason jars filled halfway with your prepared punch. Seal them tight and when you are ready to serve, just add ice and hand the jars out.
Why should kids have all the fun? Try preparing your own cocktail pop with an ice pop maker (see recipe below). After your party, hand them as an after dinner drink/dessert combo. Here are some recipes that will make this summer one to remember.
Pommery POP America Champagne is a great on the go spirit thanks to their signature mini bottles that are all the rage with celebs attending Hamptons BBQ events and poolside parties in Hollywood, These mini champers bottles don the nation’s flag so they are ideal for that July 4th fete and are light enough to tote to that picnic or BBQ. No need for glassware outdoors, POP America can be easily sipped through a straw.
At a pool…
If you’re hanging out poolside there’s a good chance the warm weather and water will have the tropics on your mind. Toast this Independence Day with simple cocktails by shaking-up your choice of Rum Jumbie Splash’s tropically refreshing flavors: Coconut, Pineapple, Mango or Vanilla. Create your own signature cocktail by simply adding a Splash of the tropics to your favorite juice for a refreshing relief from the heat.
At a block party…
What better way to show your patriotism than with a bubbly and vibrant red drink? Here’s one made en masse, so you’ll have plenty of spirit to share. Your party will be the talk of the neighborhood with Van Gogh Vodka’s Sparkling Dutch Red Sangria recipe:
Sparkling Dutch Red Sangria Recipe
- 1 bottle Dry red wine
- 3 oz Orange Liqueur
- 3 oz Van Gogh Pomegranate Vodka
- 6 oz Grenadine
- ½ bottle Pomegranate juice
- ½ bottle Pommery Brut Royal Champagne
- 1 sliced Orange
- Cinnamon sticks
Combine the first five ingredients and add to your mason jars. Chill the filled jars and a bottle of champagne. Stash it all away in a cooler. At the block party, open the champagne and top each jar with some. Add ice to each jar and a few slices of orange and a cinnamon stick.
At the in-law’s…
Don’t head to the in-law’s empty-handed. You will want something to sip on to get you through the day and you’ll also get kudos for showing up with a classy bottle of wine. Not only is Clos de los Siete 2008 ($19) a sophisticated Argentine blend (name drop famed Bordeaux wine consultant Michel Rolland for extra brownie points), but it’s also a thoughtful pairing: the wine aptly complements the grilled meats sure to dominate your Independence Day cookout.
