The Cursing Mommy ~ Free Audiobook Giveaway!
By Chris Bell
The Cursing Mommy’s Book of Days is the brain-child of Ian Frazier, and is based on his columns for The New Yorker. The Cursing Mommy is a stay at home mom with a lawyer husband and two boys. This book is written as if it is her daily blog where she tries to connect to her readers, gives tips on surviving life and vent her own frustrations. Although many times in her blog, The Cursing Mommy (who’s name we never get to know) insists she will stop cursing, she never does. And although there are some laugh out loud moments in the book, it is definitely R-rated for language.
Some of the things that happen are hysterical, like when they boys make what she thinks is a snowman, but, it’s not. Don’t want to give anything away here.
However, so much of the book is so ridiculous, that instead of being funny, it just became inane. The trips to Africa, the capacitors, the attempted murders, the boss, the school, the drugs the boys are medicated with, the health insurance, were all so over the top that I tired of it quickly. And then the book ends, 365 entries from when in began, with nothing much settled and tons of questions left unanswered.
There were fabulous moments where I burst out laughing, but far more moments where I just shook my head at the stupidity of it all.
