Thanks to Kathryn Bigelow, one more glass ceiling crashed in early 2010 when this 58-year old film director became the first woman to win a Best Director Oscar for her Iraq era war film, The Hurt Locker.
Bigelow, now single, was once briefly married to famed film director James Cameron. In Hollywood, though, she is very much her own creative force. The Hurt Locker, which was Bigelow’s eighth major Hollywood film, swept the 2010 Oscars, and opened a national dialogue on the role of women, not in front of the camera, but behind it as well.
