New York: The Big Single

By Josie Brown

New York is known as the city that never sleeps: a perfect reputation for girls who wanna have fun. Whether you want to hang in Soho like a boho babe, or be an uptown girl (make that a Park Avenue princess), SMW can guide you to the sights and sounds of the biggest city of them all:

Stars in Bars

The Beatrice Inn
285 West 12th Street, New York, NY 10014 (Near 4th Street)

Run as a club (but not necessarily private) by Paul Sevigny, this former Italian speakeasy is also a hot celebrity hangout. It is cozy (very low ceilings), what with the banquettes, mirrored walls, antiques, oil paintings, deep sofas and anteroom fireplace. In other words, the perfect place to stargaze.

pic1Rose Bar
Gramercy Park Hotel, 2 Lexington Avenue (at 21st St.)
It took Julian Schnabel’s artful eye and owner Ian Schrager’s class, cash and flair to create this chic place to meet. From its red-and-white tile floor to its fifteen-foot goldleaf “Rorschach” print by Warhol, style is word one. And the bar isn’t just well stocked, but elegant to boot.

113 St. Marks Pl., nr. First Ave.; 212-614-0386
Short for “Please Don’t Tell,” believe it or not, this watering hole is accessed through a vintage phone booth within Crif Dogs, the diner renowned for its deep-fried wieners (an ultimate sin, for sure). Serving a wide selection of beer, wine, and classic or playful cocktails, it’s the perfect place to pick up the East Village vibe at its best.
