TravelFIT Challenge: What Drives Your Travel & Fitness Passion?
By Melanie Nayer
I have always been focused on fitness. I grew up in a ‘healthy’ household – my Mom ran her own exercise studio and my Dad was a product of bad genes, which meant we all learned how to calculate our cholesterol and count calories at an early age. When I started traveling, I found out fast that if you don’t incorporate fitness into your travels, it’s near impossible to keep your energy up. But there’s more to working out than spending 30 minutes on the treadmill at the hotel gym, you need a physical fitness plan. So, when New Balance contacted me to be part of their “In Her Shoes” project, I immediately accepted and took it as a challenge.
My goal: to inspire you to get out and get active while you’re on the go. I’m jetting off in the new truebalance 850 shoes from New Balance to document life on the road in a travel and fitness journey, from the flights to the jetlag to the daily activities. The purpose: to show that there’s more to fitness on the road than what’s inside the hotel gym. I’ll document the fitness journey with photos and videos to show you how the shoes work, what doesn’t work, and also give you a few tips on how to incorporate fitness into your travels.
Here’s my challenge for you:
I know it’s hard to muster up the strength and energy to workout on a daily basis, but if you combine exercise with your passion, I guarantee you’ll be very happy with the results. Psychologists have said that a vacation is necessary for good mental health, and we know how important exercise is for your body (and brain!) so for the next few weeks I’m combining the two – and I’m challenging you to do the same. This doesn’t mean you have to travel, it just means you have to explore…
At the end of my trip, I’ll ask you to tell me what you’ve learned from this series, and create your dream travel fitness experience. Or, maybe you’ve already found your travel fitness nirvana – great! Tell me where and when, and how it made your feel, and I’ll select the best answer for a bag of swag that I hand-picked myself.
One pair of truebalance 850 shoes from New Balance and a travel gift bag from Passport Boutique in Cambridge, Mass., filled with a Love Quotes scarf; eye mask and plane amenities; organizers and luggage tag (value of the gift bag alone worth to $250).
What you need to do:
Follow along with me as I embark on my travel and fitness journeys for the next four weeks. I’ll take you to Santa Monica, then to the Bahamas, and then to the pink sands of Bermuda, and blog about my daily activities in my shoes. Simply place a comment in any of the articles I post about the trip – you’ll know which ones they are because they are labeled “TravelFIT” – and I’ll choose a winner from all of the comments on July 30, 2010.
The contest starts July 1 and runs for 30 days. One winner will be selected at random and contacted for further information about claiming their prize.
