Consider hopping over to the islands of Turks & Caicos sometime between now and May in order to catch the Turks & Caicos Sporting Club’s “In Conversation With…” program, an inspiring monthly series of intimate weekend discussions in partnership with luminaries from every field.
Here’s what’s on the agenda:
The History of Caribbean as seen through the Eyes of Pirates and Rum Bottles
Share words with Colin Woodard, author of “The Republic of Pirates;” Fred Smith, Professor of Anthropology at William & Mary and author of “Caribbean Rum, a Social and Economic History;” as he weaves a colorful tapestry of historical perspective from the two defining aspects of Caribbean culture : pirate historians and rum gurus.
He’ll be joined by Patrick Costigan, a noted rum expert working at New York City’s acclaimed restaurant, CRU; and Graham Arader, the world’s authority on antique maps of the Americas and Caribbean. You’ll end thhis long weekend with an all-species tournament of bone-, reef -and deepwater fishing!
The History of Caribbean Jazz and Food, with Wycliffe Gordon and Dion Parson
Learn about the history of the Caribbean through the steelpan, bass,and ripsaw, with experts having led Jazz seminars at Lincoln Center and played with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie and Wynton Marsalis. It will be fun-filled weekend of booming beats and smooth treats.
