Create A Life in STYLE Now

By Catherine Cassidy

You may have noticed that I’m more than a bit passionate about creating a LIFE in STYLE for my clients. It’s not just about clothes. It’s SO much more!!

I ask you: Are you not going after what you truly want because of your clothes and style?

Even if it’s not all the time, I’m willing to bet that you have moments where you shy away from asserting yourself in an opportunity because you don’t have the confidence in your image or style.

For example, have you ever seen someone you would like to introduce yourself to,  but you shied away because you were in your street clothes? Have you seen a cute guy at a coffee shop but averted eye contact because you were still in your sweats and just grabbing your morning latte?

You can’t afford to miss those opportunities!!!

Who knows when you’re going to have the opportunity to meet Mr. Right or a recruiter for the company you’ve been dreaming about working at or the client you’ve been wanting to land.

You can’t plan for it, so you need to be prepared. Your best opportunities to really connect with someone is in a personal setting, not at a networking event.

The best way to do this is to create a life in STYLE.

Here’s a cheat sheet for creating YOUR life in STYLE:

1) Know your purpose.
If you want to meet Mr. Right, create opportunities to do that. If you want to land a new client, make yourself more visible. If you want that new job, start reaching out to people in the industry/company you want to work at.

But for it to be successful, you have to know WHY you want these things. What is your purpose for wanting these things? And you have to be really clear about your WHY. What will it create for you in your life or for others in theirs?

The spillover benefit of being really clear on this is that it will be so much more fulfilling than just another goal. There is passion behind purpose, so it’s much more motivating than simply gaining another achievement.

2) Find Balance.
You are never going to get what you want if you just keep go-go-going. What you will get is tired, burnt out, and crabby.

Even Oprah acknowledged this for herself recently on her ‘Oprah’s Behind the Scenes.’ She is stepping away from her show and into another phase of her career and life because she knows she can’t keep going at that pace.

Take a moment for a few deep breaths. Maybe a midday stretch. Ideally, a few workouts a week and maybe some downtime for reading. And don’t forget to make plans with your favorite people.

All the while, be sure that you’re being true to yourself. Check in with yourself regularly. What do you want to do right at that moment? Follow your instincts. If you don’t feel like working, chances are that even if you forced yourself, you wouldn’t do your best work. If you’d love to see your friends, but really just need some downtime then give yourself some down time.

3) Create your Own Style Statement
This is intentionally the last step because if you haven’t established #1 or #2, you won’t be truly happy with #3.

If you don’t know your purpose and WHY, you won’t have any direction for your style. Believe me, I know. You may know what is stylish, but it definitely won’t be inspired and probably not very fun either.

If you’re tired, burnt out and crabby then getting dressed will be the least of your concerns. You simply have to get out the door!

I want you to be excited about getting dressed, about getting out the door and about putting yourself out there in a way that gets you noticed and what you want!!

How does that sound? Pretty nice, huh? ;)

Once you’ve settled #1 and #2, creating #3 actually becomes pretty easy.

It’s about knowing what colors you prefer and make you stand out. It’s realizing who you’re audience is and how to address it in your own personal style. It’s understanding how you prefer to dress (in dresses, tees and jeans, vintage, etc.) and how to kick it up a notch (layering, accessories, playing with color) and there are plenty of resources out there to get you on your way to creating your own Style Statement.Taking leave of the Corporate Fashion Industry,
