Fashion & Beauty Advice: Environmentally Friendly Makeup

By Maggie Malach

“Going green” no longer means just recycling and saving energy; the beauty products you buy can also help the environment! Former model and makeup artist Christopher Drummond has a few tips on how to be eco-friendly while looking beautiful:

I stay away from petroleum based products, and I love Burt’s Bees lip balms.  They have peppermint oil which invigorates the lips, and the product promotes healthy, luscious lips.

Spa Ritual is one of my favorite lines.  They have a great hand salve that is mostly organic ingredients.  They also have great toluene-free nail polish.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention a customer favorite:  Veludo Velvet Foundation by CDB.  It is very long lasting, and free of controversial ingredients like Titanium Dioxide, Bismuth Oxychloride and Zinc Oxide.

More than 20 years old, Kiss My Face is the oldest all-natural beauty line and with vegetarian founders, Kiss My Face never tests on animals. Made with olive oil and   mango butter, these naturally-tinted creams work on lips, cheeks and eyes. Choose from 4 great shades. $8.99 Available at
