Fashion Freakout: Fall Hair Trends

By Tanya Sharma of

Q. I’m ready for a fresh look and want a new haircut for the fall. Any ideas of what is going to be hot?

A. It seems like the bob has been the cut for quite a while now. It continues to reign supreme into fall, but the beauty of this style is in its ability to transcend the typical and adopt an entirely new persona each season. So while Rihanna-inspired bobs may have been everywhere last year, this season’s is fresh and new.

If your hair is fine, try a layered bob – it’s slightly choppy and undone, so it’s the perfect antithesis to fall’s sharp, polished clothes and accessories. Another favorite is the mushroom bob. It may call to mind visions of Tootie’s ridiculously meticulous style at first, but this updated take is less of an ’80s throwback and more light and refined.

Prefer not to go so short? Embrace a full head of bouncy, glamorous curls instead, suggests Guy Riggio at the Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon in Los Angeles. “Even though roller sets can be a little time-consuming,” he says, “they do wonders for achieving this luscious look.”
