Fashion Night IN!!

By Catherine Cassidy

If you’re somewhat interested in Fashion, you may have heard of Fashion’s Night Out.

In case you haven’t, a mini-tutorial:

Anna Wintour launched this idea during Fall 2009 Fashion Week in New York as a way to boost sales for the Retailers and companies in New York. Basically, retailers across the city hosted evening shopping hours complete with DJ’s, drinks and hors d’oeuvres while all the Fashionistas in the city came out to mingle and shop.

This year, it spread to LA, Milan, Paris, and London during the Fall 2010 Fashion Week and it looks to be a mainstay for the Seasons to come.

For a while now, I’ve offered clients an opportunity to have their own ‘Fashion Night IN’ as an excuse for a girl’s night AND learning how to “Build a Wardrobe You LOVE (that fits you and your lifestyle).” Needless to say, it’s a blast and inspiring!

I want to share with you how you can have your own personal Fashion Night IN with your girlfriends.

If you’ve been following these articles, you might have noticed that I’m incredibly passionate about making Fashion and Style easy, effortless and FUN for women … and I could go on for days, but I’ll let you get back to yours!

4 Steps to your own personal Fashion Night IN!

  1. Gather the Girls and Get the Wine! If you send invites, include a dress code – whether cocktail or Casual chic, etc. It’s about doing something for yourself.
  2. Roundtable Sharing Part of the benefit of having an expert present is to learn new tricks to apply in your daily life. However, there are so many resources that can inspire you to learn and play with clothes. Scour your favorite Fashion resources for the best tip you can find. Each guest shares her tip with the group. If you have a Fashion Maven in the group, perhaps she can lead the sharing and offer additional tips.
  3. Style Yourself a Vision Have everyone bring 2-3 of their favorite magazines. They don’t have to all be Fashion magazines, but at least one should be. The objective is to create your own Style Vision board. Who do you look up to as a style icon? What designers do you always covet? What colors are you drawn to? What shapes? etc. This will help you define your style so when you’re at the store, you only purchase those things that fit in to your style, lifestyle and current wardrobe.
  4. Play with Clothes Each woman should bring 2-3 pieces that they’ve been having trouble incorporating into their wardrobe yet they’re not ready to let go of – something drew them to that piece! Think about what it is that is amazing about the piece and what makes you uncomfortable. Now, how can you make it comfortable? You’d be amazed at the power of the mastermind and how creative it can be. Of course, be prepared that a piece might have to go to a better home if the consensus is that it just isn’t ‘you.’ Remember, part of the point of the evening is to bring out your BEST style!
