Fashions Under $50: Finds for the Fall

By Maggie Malach

Every season brings new, must-have pieces that make it hard for me not to run to the nearest department store. As stylish as some of these items may be, it is important to know where to make your investments. If it’s not going to be around in a few seasons, you may not want to spend three paychecks on it. If you’re still looking to vogue it out, here are some of the best fall has to offer . . . at a price that suits your wallet.

Leather is everywhere, including the revival of the beat-up leather jacket. While real leather is costly, check out faux leather for a cost-effective alternative. This jacket from Forever 21 has zippers and snaps to add unique style. Channel your inner James Dean by throwing on a pair of skinny jeans and dark glasses.

This fall will also see a continuation of the boyfriend look, this time manifested in a worn oxford shirt. This one from Old Navy comes in a variety of colors and is so easy to wear. Roll up the sleeves and leave it untucked for a casual chic look. If you want to be more professional or pulled together, tuck it into a pair of chinos and wear it with a men’s watch.

A third trend that is creeping into runways is fur. If you want to be animal-friendly (and don’t want to break the bank) invest in faux fur accessories like this eternity scarf from Urban Outfitters. Just be careful not too overdue it — a touch of fur here and there pays homage to the trend without going overboard.
