Fashions Under $50: What Fall Fashion Week Gave Us
By Maggie Malach
The world of fashion is abuzz right now, and rightfully so — fall fashion is everywhere. The shows were spectacular, the clothes were refreshing and now it’s time to incorporate these aspects into your wardrobe.
It has been quite some time since we have seen the turtleneck in a mainstream manner. This winter staple is back, however, and better than ever! Designers like Proenza Schouler showed the world that turtlenecks can be edgy and sassy. This Tissue Turtleneck Tee from J.Crew is lightweight (great for layering!) and comes in a huge range of colors. Add some jewelry to sparkle it up, or wear it with a pair of skinny jeans for a sleeker look.
Another garment not heard from in recent times is the cape. A way understated piece of outerwear, a cape is a great way to edge out an outfit without leaving your comfort zone. 3.1 Phillip Lim showed a fabulous layered cape, but a more affordable option is this Sweater Cape from Spiegel. It’s super versatile, so feel confident wearing it with anything from jeans to trousers to cropped pants.
Wideleg pants have been creeping into stores for the past couple of seasons, but this fall designers like Zac Posen are really making this look work. As an extension of the menswear for women aesthetic, these pants are universally flattering. Whether in denim or wool, they look great with other fashion week staples like the cape and turtleneck. Ty this pair from Old Navy for wideleg pants that are both comfortable and stylish.
