Q&A: Spring’s Prettiest Makeup Palettes

By Erin Donnelly

Q: My makeup bag is in desperate need of a spring makeover. What are some trendy palettes I should be on the lookout for?
A: Every spring we tend to have the same ritual: carefully stowing away our winter sweaters, happily hanging up our heavy parkas and coats in the back of the closet, and banishing those snow boots to a shoe box that won’t be opened ‘til next December. Our beauty stash needs the same kind of maintenance, which means now is the right time to filter out those dark lipsticks and smoky shadows you vamped in this winter. What should go in their place? This spring is all about pretty pastels; shimmering, subtly glowing skin; and the unabashed use of color. (Not Barnum & Bailey color, but color nonetheless.) And if you’re not sure how to achieve this warmer, softer look, fret not. The handy beauty palettes below boast all the colors and tools you need to shine this season.
Bobbi Brown Pink Raspberry Palette (shown, top): This limited-edition case is all about the berries. Pair rosy cheeks and lips with a neutral lid for that perfect romantic flush.
Yves Saint Laurent Palette Pop: Temperatures are starting to rise, so give your face a sun-kissed glow with these psychedelic (in design, not application) luminous powders. Bonus: It’s a collector’s edition.
Stila Marrakesh Eye Quads: Warm up your look with this exotic assortment of shimmering earth tones. This is a terrific look for tanned or darker skin tones.
Chantecaille Tango in Argentina (shown, right): Turns out it actually takes three to tango, as in these three shimmering eye shadows. The beige and brown neutrals tone down the vivid pink shadow for a look that’s spring-meets-sultry.
Tarte Infinite Glow: Not only is this trio of Tarte’s bestselling products (mineral powder bronzer, vivid cheek stain, and a rosy lip sheer) perfect for spring, but its faux-croc case is capitalizing on one of the season’s biggest fashion trends too.
Chanel 4 Fleurs de Chanel Yeux (shown, left): You don’t have to parlez Francais to see how these four floral-inspired pastel shadows translate to a beautifully delicate look.
