Spring Hot List: Vibrant Hues, Safari Styles, and Feminine Florals

By Erin Donnelly

After the emotional drag of a super-sized February (we’re looking at you, Valentine’s Day!), it’s fantastic to finally leave the bleak winter behind us and welcome spring with an open-armed sprint normally reserved for greeting hot boyfriends at the airport and the first day of the Barneys Warehouse Sale. Pick up the trends below so you can celebrate in style.
Color, Color, Color: Buh-bye, black. Lighten (and brighten) up with Crayola-inspired hues for an instant mood lift. Our pick: Ali Ro’s Petal Sleeve Dress (shown).
Safari Chic: Go global in looks inspired by Africa. Look for safari-style shirts, chunky wooden bangles, and exotic prints like the one on Old Navy’s Keyhole Top.

Cap Sleeves: You’ve been bundled up in sweaters for far too long. Let your arms breathe with a pretty cap-sleeved top or dress. Get the look with Express’s gorgeous Silk Charmeuse Triple Dart Shirt.

pic1Braids: I’m obsessed with the whimsical side braid hairstyles Sarah Michelle Gellar and Amanda Bynes have been sporting lately. Get the look here

A Smart Shirtdress: It’s time to show off some leg! Go Doris Day chic with Badgley Mischka Sportswear’s Zoe Poplin Shirtdress (shown) or sleek and sophisticated with Spiegel’s office-appropriate Signature Pointe Knit version. If it’s still chilly out, throw on a belted trench or fab swing coat—and don’t forget the heels!
Berry Lips: Color shouldn’t be limited to your wardrobe. Pucker up to one of Guerlain KissKiss Lipstick’s many rosy shades.
The Belted Cardigan: Spring is all about layering, so slip on a cardigan—like this lemon-hued Tory Burch Venice Cardigan—over your dress and cinch it with a belt.
Platforms: Your feet may not forgive you, but your inner Carrie Bradshaw will adore this season’s sky-high heels. Let Dolce Vita’s ultra-glam Carmen Platform Pump take you to new heights.
Florals: Floral prints were in full bloom on the spring runways. Nanette Lepore’s airy Beaded Floral Tunic fits the bill.

Lingerie Details: Underwear as outerwear has always been tricky (unless you’re Madonna), but the latest batch of boudoir-inspired fashion reveals a subtler, more sensual touch. Bypass over-the-top corsets in favor of lace trim and delicate fabrics like silk and chiffon, as seen on this gorgeous Hoss Intropia Chiffon Camisole Top (shown).
